There is a very particular scream that comes from a child having been hurt on the playground. I say the playground, but of course, it could be anywhere. I remember an incident with our daughter on a skateboard in the driveway (she was three) that still gives me shivers. When these things happen, and they always do, we reach for Owie Spray. It's the ultimate in care for cuts and scrapes (road rash, anyone?) and is as soothing as it is healing.
I can't tell you where this recipe originated, but we've been using it for years, and it's perfection.
Owie Spray
4 drops Lavender Essential Oil
4 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
4 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
Fractionated Coconut Oil
*I've recently added 2 drops of Helichrysum to this recipe, after my sweet boy fell down our marble stairs and scraped himself up fairly well. You could see the area start to darken almost immediately, but some Owie Spray with a bit of Helichrysum on top did the trick and he didn't bruise at all and healed quickly. Since then, I've added Helichrysum into our mix and it's lovely. This is completely optional and you can rest assured that the original recipe is fabulous and all most anyone would need.
I mix everything, Essential Oils first, in a 2 oz amber spray bottle and fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil. Voilà, loving kindness in a bottle! I'd like to note that we only use dōTERRA Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. I trust their safety and efficacy, and simply wouldn't use anything else on my kiddos. *Please note that this is a 1% rate of dilution, perfect for kiddos, but a bit too much oil for babies. Carry this with you, as I do, and you'll be the most prepared parent on the playground (we've used our spray, on many occasions, on children we've just met whose mamas weren't quite as prepared for the events that happened to unfold before them).
